Vice President Kashim Shettima is urging for global cooperation to address the issue of internal displacement in Nigeria.
He has expressed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of displaced citizens.
During the launch of the “State Action Plans on Durable Solution to Internal Displacement” in Abuja, Shettima emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to tackle this complex challenge.
The Vice President highlighted the strategy implemented by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to address internal displacement, emphasizing the nation’s prioritization of the welfare of its people.
The Action Plan is part of the United Nations Secretary General’s Solution Agenda on Internal Displacement, which aims to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) in finding lasting solutions to their displacement and preventing new displacement crises. It also focuses on ensuring effective protection and assistance for those facing displacement.
Shettima unveiled the program being carried out in four northern states – Adamawa, Benue, Borno, and Yobe. He emphasized the country’s commitment to ensuring that every displaced individual can return to a safer environment and receive support to start anew, considering Nigeria’s history of economic hardships.
