Rivers State Crisis: State High court declares 25 seats vacant in the house of Assembly.

The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has declared the seats of 25 lawmakers vacant after they defected from the PDP to the APC.

The court has ordered Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule to stop acting as Speaker and has prohibited the other 24 lawmakers from posing as members of the State House Assembly.

The order was given in a suit brought by Speaker Victor Oko Jumbo and others regarding the legislative crisis in the state.

The court has also issued an injunction preventing the lawmakers from carrying out legislative duties until the case is resolved.

The case has been adjourned to July 1, 2024.
