Edo State Election: INEC says 2024 Gov election will reflect the people’s choice
INEC has confirmed that the 2024 governorship election in Edo State will accurately represent the choice of the people.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this statement during a stakeholders meeting in Benin City.
The meeting was attended by leaders of political parties and heads of security agencies.
Yakubu also addressed concerns about the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), stating that the majority of those registering were young people, dispelling claims that young people were disillusioned with the electoral process.
He assured the people of Edo State that the election would be credible.
Yakubu emphasized the importance of a level-playing field for all parties and condemned the reported shootings during the CVR, stating that the people have the right to decide their leaders and should not be prevented from doing so.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Anugbum Onuoha, also highlighted the need for solutions to address the security issues affecting some registration centers.
