Federal Government and Labour Union convene meeting, following end of Strike on Minimum Wage
On Wednesday, discussions for a fresh minimum wage for employees in the nation recommenced following the suspension of the indefinite strike by the Organised Labour.
The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage convened at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, with representatives from the Federal Government and Organised Labour present.
The attendees of the meeting comprised government officials, including the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and National Planning, and Minister of Labour. Additionally, representatives from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Service of the Federation were present.
Organised Labour was represented by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
Despite the absence of state governors, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s Director General participated in the meeting. It was decided that the committee would convene daily for a week in order to come to a consensus on a new minimum wage. President Bola Tinubu encouraged them to expedite the process.
President Tinubu expressed his dedication to a wage that surpasses ₦60,000, while Organised Labour clarified that they were not rigidly adhering to their initial request of ₦494,000.
