Rivers State: Government Approves The Reconstruction of House Of Assembly Chambers.
The Rivers State Government has given approval for the reconstruction of the State Assembly Chambers, which were previously demolished during a political crisis.
The approval was granted during a State Executive Council Meeting held at the government house in Port Harcourt. The contract for the reconstruction was awarded to Monier Construction Company Nigeria Limited (MCC) for a total cost of ₦19.5 billion.
The project is expected to be completed within 9 months and will result in a new Assembly Complex consisting of 34 en suite offices, a two-story building with an elevator, gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall.
The project also includes the renovation and refurbishing of other structures within the House of Assembly Complex that were not demolished.
The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Special Projects, Dr Rowland Obed-Whyte, stated that the completed Assembly building will be one of the best in the country.
In addition to the reconstruction of the Assembly Chambers, the State Executive Council also approved the renovation and upgrade of four zonal hospitals, as well as the construction of the Kalaibiama/Epellema road and bridge in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. The total cost for the hospital projects is ₦26.35 billion, while the road and bridge project will cost ₦29.04 billion.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, expressed gratitude for the approval of the termination of existing contracts and the re-awarding of fresh contracts for the completion of the hospital projects. The new contractors will be mobilized to begin construction work in order to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
