Reno Omokri Accuses Peter Obi of Spreading False Claims About Presidential Jet Purchase
Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has leveled allegations against Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, for spreading false information about the purchase of a presidential jet for President Bola Tinubu. Omokri clarified that, contrary to Obi’s claims, the Nigerian government has no intentions of acquiring a new private jet for Tinubu.
Omokri emphasized that the proposal to replace the presidential jet did not originate from the presidency, but rather from the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence. This committee recommended that the Federal Government procure new aircraft for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. In response to this recommendation, Peter Obi criticized the idea through a series of posts on his official X account, stating, “It is unacceptable that the government is considering purchasing new presidential jets when Nigerians are suffering in poverty. This clearly demonstrates insensitivity towards the plight of the Nigerian people.”
In retaliation, Omokri responded to Obi with a comprehensive post on X titled “Presidential Jet: Another Peter Obi Gbajue.” He wrote, “Peter Obi’s condemnation of the Federal Government’s plan to buy a new presidential jet for President Tinubu is another fabricated lie from a man who has mastered the art of deceit. The truth is that there is no such plan. It was the National Assembly that proposed the idea, exercising their rightful authority. The Executive did not make any plans nor allocate any funds for this purpose.”
Furthermore, Omokri accused Obi of misleading the public about other government expenditures, stating, “This is the same way he lied and blamed the Tinubu administration for spending N21 billion on the new residence of the Vice President. What he conveniently failed to mention to his naive supporters is that the project was initiated and funded by previous administrations, including the time when our party, the Peoples Democratic Party, was in power. It is important to note that Peter Obi was a card-carrying member of our party at that time, but he conveniently overlooks this fact.”
