Labour Union: Still On the Nationwide Strike

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) announced that the nationwide industrial strike that began on Monday will continue pending.

The state was made on their Social Media page (X) on Tuesday morning, saying, “Until we hear  from Our Organs at our Meeting scheduled for today 4th June , We are still on Strike”.

The Federal Government on Monday convened a meeting with the Labour Party at the Secretary to the Federation of Government Office to call off the strike. However, after extensive consultations and discussions, the NLC announced that the Federal Government has agreed to a minimum wage of over ₦60,000 naira. In a statement, the NLC said, “For the above reasons, the tripartite committee will meet daily over the next  week  to set an acceptable national minimum wage.”

The NLC later said it would meet with the groups today, adding that  the industrial action would not cause workers to suffer any prejudice.

The statement was jointly signed by NLC president Joe Ahaero and  Trade Union Congress (TUC) president Festus Osifo.
