The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to temporarily halt their nationwide strike in order to give the Federal Government an opportunity to address the issue of a national minimum wage.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council. The Federal Government has agreed to increase their initial offer of a ₦60,000 minimum wage after meeting with the labour representatives.
The strike was initially called after talks broke down between the labour unions and the tripartite committee established by the government to discuss the new minimum wage.
The strike had a significant impact on the country’s economy. The NLC and TUC have urged their members to return to work while negotiations with the government continue. They expressed gratitude to the workers and the public for their support and solidarity, and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of all Nigerians.
