Kaduna House of Assembly Alleges Mismanagement of ₦423Billion by El-Rufai and Ex-Commissioners
The Kaduna State House of Assembly has accused former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his aides of mismanaging ₦423 billion over an eight-year period as governor.
The Assembly has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the former governor and his appointees for unauthorized cash withdrawals in both dollars and naira, as well as loans obtained without following due process.
El-Rufai has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and has promised to respond to the report in detail once he has reviewed it. The Assembly received a report from an ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the financial activities, loans, and contracts awarded during El-Rufai’s tenure. The report implicated El-Rufai, several of his commissioners, and aides in the mismanagement of state resources.
The Assembly has recommended that Governor Uba Sani refer El-Rufai and other implicated individuals to relevant security agencies for further investigation. The report highlighted instances of loans not being used for their intended purposes, lack of due process in financial transactions, and reckless awarding of contracts leading to abandoned projects.
The Assembly has also called for the suspension of the former Commissioner for Finance and other implicated officials, as well as the recovery of funds from overpaid contractors and those who received payments without completing the work. The report further identified several individuals and companies who should be investigated for their roles in the financial mismanagement.
